WeWork India starts two new co-working centres in Mumbai, Bengaluru

WeWork India launched two new co-working centres in Mumbai and Bengaluru on September 8, 2020, adding 4,350 desks to meet surging demand for flexible workspaces. These centres, spanning 1.15 lakh sq ft, underscore the coworking sector’s growth amid India’s startup and corporate expansion.​

Centre Details

The Mumbai facility at Nesco IT Park offers 3,400 desks, targeting the financial hub’s entrepreneurs, startups, and multinationals. In Bengaluru, the 950-seater centre at Prestige Cube caters to the city’s high office space demand.​

Company Expansion

Post-launch, WeWork India operated over 57,000 desks across 34 locations in NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, and Hyderabad. Seats ranged from Rs 5,000 to Rs 40,000 per desk monthly, with plans to raise USD 200 million for further growth.​

Leadership Insights

Karan Virwani, CEO of WeWork India, highlighted the workspace industry’s peak demand. He noted recent openings like a 600-desk centre in Mumbai’s Worli, emphasizing dynamic environments for diverse businesses.​

Background Context

Owned by Bengaluru-based Embassy Group since their 2016 partnership with US-based WeWork, the firm had launched India’s first REIT earlier that year. This expansion aligned with Embassy’s push into commercial real estate.​
