Panchshil Realty, a leading real estate developer in Pune, launched a three-pronged CSR initiative through its Panchshil Foundation in April 2020 to address the severe impacts of the COVID-19 lockdown on daily wage earners and frontline workers. This effort focused on immediate food relief, community education, and medical protection amid widespread economic halt.
Food Hamper Distribution
Panchshil Foundation distributed over 12,000 food hampers containing essentials like rice, dal, cooking oil, and eggs to daily wage earners in Pune within the first 12 days, coordinating with the Pune Collector’s office and local corporators. The initiative targeted 8,000 hampers weekly for six weeks, prepared at Panchshil’s hospitality properties including The Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, and Courtyard by Marriott in Pune. These distributions provided critical relief to thousands facing income loss due to the lockdown.
NDRF Awareness Partnership
The foundation partnered with Pune’s 5th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for community education drives starting April 8, 2020, at labor camps like those in Wagholi. NDRF experts shared hygiene tips, handwashing techniques, and safety precautions while assisting in hamper distributions. This collaboration aimed to empower vulnerable populations against COVID-19 spread through grassroots outreach.
PPE Kits for Healthcare
Panchshil Foundation committed to supplying 10,000 Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) kits to Pune hospitals treating COVID-19 patients over the following weeks. Later updates showed over 15,000 kits distributed in partnership with Force Motors to hospitals, police, and municipal authorities. Atul Chordia, Chairman of Panchshil Realty, emphasized addressing both food insecurity and medical frontline needs during the crisis.
Broader CSR Context
Panchshil Foundation’s actions aligned with its mission in health, education, and community welfare, building on Pune-focused real estate expertise. The initiatives extended to later efforts like hotel stays for doctors with Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla and over 35,000 total food hampers. These steps highlighted corporate responsibility in mitigating pandemic hardships locally.
